Funds from the Norris Foundation will support POLAHS’ International Business and Maritime Studies program, which includes four mandatory and 12 elective courses. Classes like Logistics; Environmental Engineering; Port Community Senior Thesis; and Ocean Politics allow each and every student to explore a variety of career paths and the college degrees required to pursue them. As a result, POLAHS graduates have majored in fields like Business Administration; Mechanical Engineering; Physics; and Global Studies at the California Maritime Academy and other prestigious universities throughout the nation.
“When students arrive at POLAHS, the majority of them are not aware of what’s happening in the port, or the career opportunities in the maritime and international business fields. Taking field trips and bringing in guest speakers are critical parts of integrating the classroom experience with real life. Students can spend a week at the University of Southern California (USC) Wrigley Marine Science Center or intern at Boeing for the semester. We could not provide these comprehensive opportunities without the continued support of the Norris Foundation. I appreciate how much the Norris Foundation values our school and the potential that they see in our students,” says Anthony Desanto, POLAHS Director of Maritime Studies.
