"California's Career Technical Education leads the way in providing our students with a rigorous academic education in addition to the practical job skills that are in the greatest demand. At the same time, we're providing businesses and our communities with a next-generation workforce needed to keep our economy thriving." - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson
As a recipient of the California Department of Education's competitive Career Technical Education (CTE) Incentive Grant award, POLAHS will receive $145,000 for the 2016-2017 school year. POLAHS is eligible for two additional years of grant funding through the newly established state program - the largest of its kind nationwide.
POLAHS' maritime CTE program was introduced in fall 2015. In addition to Maritime Studies and World Geography courses required for all freshmen, three elective CTE pathways include: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Digital Media, and Boat Operations.
The program prepares students to be college and career-ready by providing core academic skills, employability skills, and technical, job-specific skills. POLAHS' multifaceted program features high school, postsecondary, and industry partnerships, enabling clear pathways to certifications and degrees.
